Nominations have begun! The main nominations guide is HERE and a longer FAQ is HERE.

We are already seeing nominations that do not follow guidelines. Please make sure you use the CHARACTER field for characters and relationships only, and use the RELATIONSHIPS field for AU tags only. Tags entered in the wrong field may not be approved.

Please especially check our GUIDELINES for related fandoms and franchises.

Thank you, and we'll get to approving shortly!

Discussion: resources. What are your favourite resources for writing? (this can be anything - software, assistive tech, recurring challenges and exchanges, comms etc) also if you think it would be useful to have, I can make a sticky with resources and try to keep it up to date especially the comms side of it.

NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN! Please go and nominate your fandoms, characters/relationships, and ideas for alternate universes!

The FAQ explains how to nominate and how you’ll use nominated tags in your sign-up. Check there first if you have a question, then please ask by email (AUex@fandom.exchange) or by comment if something’s not clear. Some nominations-specific tips:

You want to be as clear as possible what you mean with the AU - not just so the mods know what you mean, but so that someone coming along later is on the same page as you about what they’re requesting or offering.

Example:

A bit vague:
AU: Phoenix Doesn't Die (Marvel Comics)

Better:
AU: Jean Grey Is Not Killed By Xorn (Marvel Comics)

Why is this better? Clarity! There are multiple characters named Phoenix who have died multiple times. This way makes it clear which Phoenix you mean and what you want to change.

Your mods are fallible humans [or possibly a menagerie of small animals] who aren’t familiar with all canons. Please be around to answer questions if necessary, and please be willing to work with us to create tags that makes sense to most!

AND REMEMBER:

  • Fandom tags go in the “Fandom” field - see the FAQ for guidelines on the fandom tags for franchises

  • AU tags go in the “Relationship” field, always start with “AU:”, and include the fandom or an abbreviation at the end in brackets

  • Relationship tags, whether platonic or romantic, go in the “Character” field, always start with “Relationship:”, and include the fandom name or an abbreviation at the end in brackets

    • Romantic or sexual relationships are indicated by a slash, like Relationship: Benjamin Sisko/Kira Nerys (Star Trek Original Timeline)

    • Platonic relationships are indicated by a spaced ampersand, like Relationship: Harry & Luna & Neville (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling)

  • Character tags go in the “Character” field, and may include the fandom name at the end in brackets if it’s a common name that could fit in several canons. [Matching is OR, so a character nominated by themselves may give rise to a work that is only about that character or has them as the only focus.]

Thank you.

EDIT: We will now be allowing you to request 20 AUs per fandom in the final sign up.

For all my life, ever since I was an orphan child living in abject poverty with my parents in a ten-bedroom house in Kenilworth, IL, it was my dream to manufacture bespoke pretentious assholes!

Unfortunately, after pouring three of my rich uncles' entire fortunes into it, I still found that there was no market for my quality assholes.

Over the years, I've noticed that my garden has a range of different pollinators. Sure, the European honey bees do show up, but it's for the big events, like almond or lemon trees in blossom. Less glamorous pollinators, like native bumble bees and various flies do the everyday pollination of my squash, eggplant and plum trees.

Here's a link to an article that describes the connection between the honey bee and modern agriculture, and points out that in a thriving diverse ecosystem (like our gardens) we still can rely on the more natural range of pollinators.

Nominations will run from July 2 through July 15. As a reminder, here's how nominations work and how they affect signups:
  • You may nominate up to 8 fandoms. At least for this year, we do not plan to change this maximum, since we've dropped the 2+ nominations requirement.

  • If a fandom you nominated has been rejected, it's likely because that fandom was nominated with a slightly different title. (More likely to happen with newer fandoms without canonical tags on AO3.) If you feel a fandom has been rejected in error, please let us know.

  • Signups require a minimum of 3 requests with a maximum of 10. For each one, you must request at least 2 fandoms and up to 10.

  • Signups require a minimum of 3 offers with a maximum of 10. For each one, you must offer at least 2 fandoms and up to 10.
When nominations begin, we will post more detailed instructions about how to nominate on AO3. (You can also review the FAQ.)

To pass the time until nominations: brainstorming post! Previously, participants used brainstorming posts to plan their nominations around the 2+ nominations requirement. But as of this year, that requirement no longer applies.

So instead, you can use this post to discuss which fandoms you plan to nominate, to share your ideas for crossovers, or to get suggestions for crossovers from other participants. You can also promote fandoms here, if you'd like.
Wednesday, June 21st, 2017 01:42 am
There are just over 24 hours left to sign up! Signups close on Wednesday, June 21st, at 11.59 PM UTC. If you want to participate but haven't signed up yet, please remember to do so soon! And if you have signed up, but still need to edit your offers/requests, please do that in the next 24 hours too.

Sign up here.

Discussion: what are you working on this week?

Note: I changed the subject line a little to make it less pejorative. I'm also kind of stuck on the trigger warning, so I'm just going to call it a general clusterfuck and point to the subject line.

Whether or not you're a participant, treats are welcome and encouraged at Not Prime Time! All the requests are located on AO3 or in a txt file. And if you're finding that your treat isn't quite fitting a recipient's requests, then the NPT_Producer has got you covered. Anyone who gifts a fic to NPT_Producer will receive an automated comment. Not Prime Time 2017 collection is available for fics 1k words and above while Prime Time Madness 2017 is available for fics under 1k words and non-fic works such as icons, podfic, art, and more.

There are still two more pinch hits left for claiming. Pinch hit #3 and pinch hit #5.

I've been asked whether it's okay to write fics in Wonder Woman fandom. As Wonder Woman is eligible, I'll allow it whether those fics are gifted to NPT_Producer or as treats to recipients you know would like them (not as assignments though).

Stories are due July 3rd!

The city of Boston has put up a climate change website that republishes EPA and other federal government stuff that the current administration has scrubbed:

http://climatechangedata.boston.gov/

The top of the home page identifies it as a City of Boston site, and says
The City of Boston wishes to acknowledge and attribute this information to the United States Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for the decades of work that they have done to advance the fight against climate change. While this information may not be readily available on the agency’s webpage right now, here in Boston we know climate change is real and we will continue to take action to fight it.

I haven't explored very much yet, but there's a lot there.

We received some great feedback. You can view the results of the poll here. Based on your input, we'll implement the following changes for this year's exchange:
  • Requests will be visible throughout signups.

  • Fandoms no longer need 2+ nominations. We will approve all fandoms, except in cases of duplicates.

  • Although the majority voted to keep the traditional bucket requests/offers system, we're lowering the minimum number of fandoms per request/offer to two (2). You can still request up to six (6) fandoms per request and offer up to ten (10) fandoms per offer.

  • Participants may request and offer art.
    • Requirements for art: Traditional or digital piece created entirely by the artist. Cannot be drawn on lined paper. Minimum size of 500,000 pixels. Must include two (2) or more of the requested fandoms.

    • If an artist's submission fails to meet the guidelines, their recipient will be sent to the pinch hits list.

    • This means that the fic/art field will be required and that we'll match based on it.
  • The crossover/fusion field will now be required. We will match on this field, if we're able to do so.

  • We will include the characters field in signups. It will not be required, but we hope you'll use it to give your author more information about you preferences.
We know that not all of these changes will suit everyone, but we hope that overall they'll improve the exchange. If you have any questions or concerns, you can leave a comment here or you can email us at crossoveringmods@gmail.com.

The rules and FAQ will be updated to reflect these changes soon.

Schedule for this year's exchange:
Nominations: July 2 – July 15
Signups: July 18 – July 27
Assignments out: July 30
Assignments due: September 30
Pinch hits due: October 6
Archive live: October 7
Authors revealed: October 14

Happy Father's Day. Sorry for missing last week's check in.

The theme of this week seems to be Secrecy in the Senate to Screw us on Healthcare.

Housekeeping
Reminder that we have a suggestion post if there’s a topic that you’d like to see discussed but would like to ask the mods to look into. This can be anything from general information, or a how-to-do-a-thing, or something you may want to discuss as a community. Folks are welcome to post directly to the comm as always, but if you’re not comfortable/don’t have spoons, we can help too.

Also if you need help with tags, PM [personal profile] redbird who is our tag guru. Both [personal profile] tanaqui and I are very grateful for the help.
