So I bought Amazon again so I could watch The Bridgerton series. Got through two episodes while making dumplings on Friday night (Thursday night?) and definitely enjoyed.
But now I'm stuck. Because I've done this several times in the last dozen years - watched a couple of episodes of something, quite enjoyed it, and then never gotten back on the horse. I really need people to sit and watch with me - I've mentioned this before.
I would like to watch the rest of it (I'm re-reading the books; oddly Daphne's book was one of the least favourites) but...too many things to do.
Anyway, question for the book series knowledgeable: in the book series, I think that Marina is the distant cousin of the Bridgertons who goes into depression and dies, leaving her husband behind (whom Eloise then corresponds with over ten years or more, which kicks off the events of her book). That was a neat tie-in for later...maybe? Although some reviewer has already pointed out the problematics of Marina being the major non-white female character who ends up pregnant and outcast; how much more problematic does that become if she develops mental health issues and dies so one of the mains ends up with her widower?
Also, Francesca seems rather younger than Eloise (admittedly, she is described as a quieter personality) and she's only supposed to be a year or two junior.
I'll be interested in seeing how (and if) they deal with Penelope's 'two stone' of weightloss in canon without fat-shaming. I haven't looked up the actress, so I don't know if she's that size in RL or if (like the Etta Candy actress in WW) they've put her in something to make her look larger.
Okay, I need sleep. Long week ahead.

Nicola Coughlan plays Clare Devlin in Derry Girls, and she's a small-fat to a medium-fat in that, so...
It does look like they have made her look a bit fatter through
hair colour/hair style;
makeup colour/foundation colour;
dress colour but that's about it.

I am hoping they go the 'more flattering colours/lighting/makeup' route rather than 'she lost weight and suddenly she's beautiful' one. Because, honestly, most of us can look pretty decent (for a broadly socially acceptable version of 'decent') in a well-cut outfit and colours that suit our colouring, and that needs to be acknowledged (along with "beauty/stylishness/visual acceptability is not the only indicator of your worth").

(Everyone is very pretty but... eh.)

I've not read the books, so can't really say what they're planning beyond this season. I will say that Marina's season 1 arc doesn't resemble anything you've mentioned though.
As far as Penelope, I don't get the sense that they've made the actress look larger - the fashion isn't figure-flattering, but that's about it? It's not really figure-flattering for anyone on the show to be honest. It's like there's two settings - straight and curvy. *shrugs*

I might eventually get around to watching those episodses. Like the sister and I will eventually get around to watching 'Battle of the Five Armies'.

Someone just entered a really nicely done icon in an icon challenge here.
