I just spent three hours in the garden.

I was not expecting time to pass quite that quickly.

On the plus side, I got the seedlings transplanted and covered up for the first day in the sun (so they don't transpire so much), moved the smaller seedlings to larger seedling pots or planter trays, and prepped the seed trays for seeds.

I want more bok choy and asian greens, cabbage and cauliflower, and, oh, it's time to plant peas (sugarsnap and snow) for the end of winter, isn't it?

Interesting. This planting guide for Sydney says to plant sweet corn in April! Full sun, of course...

I wonder if I should try planting it in the front bed where the fruit trees are. There's probably space. Hm. It would need extra nutrients and mulching, but I've got a decent amount of worm castings and quite a bit of compost... Might give it a try. Depends on whether we have a cold or a mild winter. Last year was cold. Year before was mild. At the worst, it won't grow or it'll grow stunted.

The front bed (about a month ago):



You can't actually see the space where I'd plant the corn, but it's kind of next to and around the big tree. The tricky part is mostly that I'm planning to take the citruses out and plant them along the front yard fence, with the intent of turning them into a kind of fruit orchard screen.

Better look up 'moving citrus trees'. And be prepared to buy more trees if necessary...

I love your gardens. I would grow some myself, but without a cage, the squirrels would destroy everything. They dug up one of my iris' to put a tangerine in the pot. I was incredulous when I found this rotting citrus in the pot. I did just plant some Basil and Sage in pots. So far, so good.

I'm not sure its a good idea to move trees at all after they've rooted... Still, you're way more experienced than I am.

Thank you! This is the front garden, and all the bushy stuff is lucerne, which is a nitrogen fixer, and which was last massacred...oh, in January sometime. That's the growth of the heat and wet of the last three months...

You can move trees after they've rooted, and I can't say they've grown very far in the 18 months they've been in the bed. It'd probably be best to get them out and relocated now, before they start spreading out a little further.

Down side is that there are fruit on two of the citruses, and the lemon has experienced the first good flush for a while...

Going to have to negotiate my mum's yard worker with her. :)
