Five Thirty-Eight: The Moscow Midterms
How Russia could steal our next election.

I particularly liked how they wrote the scenario: a 3rd-person omniescent narrator that gives a reasonably low-level depiction of what and how democracy could be diverted.

Bloomberg: Women Lose Out To Men Even Before They Leave College
For almost 40 years, women have outnumbered men on U.S. college campuses. They’re accepted to the same schools as men, study in the same degree programs and graduate at higher rates than men. So when female graduates enter the labor force, you’d expect that they would at least find the same opportunities as their male peers, if not better ones. That hasn’t necessarily happened.

Nothing that I didn't already know, although it doesn't conclude why the situation is so. (Note: my conclusion - sexism and sexist hegemony.)

However, in anecdata, I have noted the desire for meaning vs the desire for money/status when comparing what women and men choose to work for and as, and also that it's not unknown for men to put more hours in at the office so they can elude the practicalities of household management.

NYT: Extensive Data Shows Punishing Reach Of Racism On Black Males
White boys who grow up rich are likely to remain that way. Black boys raised at the top, however, are more likely to become poor than to stay wealthy in their own adult households.

It's not class, it's not gender, it's race.

Intriguing (if off-topic from the article), however, is this one snippet: " Asian-Americans earn more than whites raised at the same income level, or about the same when first-generation immigrants are excluded."

Basically, being born in the west confers no particular advantage to Asian American social mobility; it's not the country that does it, but the change in opportunity.
