Unfortunately, it's not a sunny day - grey, occasional showers, hopefully the worst of it is done. Weather around here can absolutely change on a dime.

The guy from my permaculture group who wanted to do this - very insistently - is terrible a tech.

Reminders about the event and the need for volunteers were sent out a week ago. Which is most certainly not enough time for busy families and people with schedules to put it in their diaries.

Yes, we've known about this for months, but constant reminders are needed.

And he got grumpy when we pointed this out three weeks ago at the committee meeting.

Also: he's very helpful, but not very cluey? Like, I'm going to turn up and there will almost certainly be no colour at the booth, maybe a couple of banners, some printouts.

I'm bringing: fruit and veg I grew in my garden, books about permaculture, takeaway containers (reusing), several sheets with QR codes for people to scan, and my Darth Vader KeepCup. Colourful stuff, things to engage, catch the eye, make people draw towards the table.

TBH, a lot of the 'older folk' (60 and above) are not awfully colourful. They still tend to behave like the people who are interested in permaculture will walk in the door and join something. In most cases, the people we're looking for (30s-40s with energy and an eye for the future) won't - too many other things on, and they don't want another thing they have to perform/join/do activities for. So we give them books and booklets, websites and links, things to read and gardens to look at. Visual stuff, in line with modern media.

Yes, it's a consumption model, not the community model, but most people are not going to join a community model because they're already socialised/scheduled out. There's participation requirements for parents in private schools. They take their kids to sport and then discover they're on a schedule to help out at a BBQ. They're already working a full week, they have no time to socialise, they want something that they can absorb through various media.

The object is to give them a soft landing, or a curious entry.

*sigh*

I messaged the group president yesterday to ask if she was going to be helping out at the festival and got one word back: "No."

Oof.

I hope it went okay despite all the challenges. (And I love the idea of a Darth Vader KeepCup. :D)
