9,000 words. That more or less means I've done 5,000 words in the last week, which isn't bad.

Except that if I continue at this pace, it means I must write 5,000 words a week from now until the due date to get the story finished. And the story's proving difficult enough to chivvy along as is.

I don't know if you follow it, if you care, if you even know that there are LJ elections going on.

The idea is that LJ is going to have someone on their advisory board who is an "ordinary user". Or, at least, as "ordinary" as LJ-fame permits! And they've invited fandom to vote on it.

You can find the details of the ElJay Political Extravaganza (complete with song-and-dance poll, and confusing-to-the-non-Australians preferential voting system) at [livejournal.com profile] lj_election_en.

For those who aren't familiar with the preferential voting system (ie. everyone who isn't Australian), [livejournal.com profile] lyore pointed me to an explanation, and to the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_votes community, which showcases the various 'fannish' candidates.

I think of [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts as the little paper handouts that the major parties give you when you're standing in the queue outside the polling place, telling you how to vote the way the party wants you to vote. You don't have to vote their way if you don't want to. (Okay, that may be an Australianism that no-one but the Australians will get. Hm.)

You don't even have to vote. Voting is optional. There will be no obvious and direct penalties if you don't (unlike in Australian elections where voting is mandatory and they're supposed to fine you if you don't vote). But if you take an interest in LJ's politics (or LJ or politics in general), it might be worth going over and checking it out.

And if your head goes 'splodey from the confusion, well, I'll be back here with the sour apple martinis and the beer. Drinks all around!
