Thought my gardening group was having its Christmas party this afternoon, nearly panicked b/c I had nothing to bring and chopped and stewed some pumpkin, all prepared to make pumpkin scones and/or pumpkin pie. Then I spotted the note about the locality. It's not my local one (county, I guess other countries would call it); it's the next locality over. I have another two weeks before our local gardening group has a party.
PHEW.
However, tomorrow, I have a friend's Christmas Party which he throws every year (a Big Gay Christmas Party as he and his partner call it). I'm trying to decide if I should do pumpkin lemonade scones (Americans: Australian lemonade = sprite/sierra mist) or bourbon pumpkin pie.
At some point I also have to make the Boozy Doozy for any parties I turn up to.
( tequila )
And on the matter of fermented drinks, I've started making kombucha with a SCOBY I received in a crop swap last weekend. It's just slightly fermented black tea, which you can flavour with fruit as you please.
A crop swap is where you take excess produce from your garden, and meet with other people who have excess produce from their gardens, and you swap what you have with what they have. Although 'swap' is something of a misnomer, it's more of a "does anyone want some peach jam? If I have to look into another jar, I might go mad..."
I got a whole load of shoots and cuttings out of it, which are all being propagated (and have to find somewhere to go). I still haven't planted the pumpkins (gonna have to do that soon), and, oh dear, I have to move the chickens to the next bed in the next day or so...
At least that will free up planting space?
And now it's time to head out to my sewing group...
