I am pretty resigned to being in Team 3 this year.
I played 2 short games last night, one with the proposed Team 3, one with proposed Team 2, in that order.
In the team 3 game, I was a wing (striker). Got a couple of breakaway passes, had about five shots on goal of which one got in, and had to deliver one 'stroke' (me vs. goalie; goalie won). I know i was strong - stronger than the level of play expected from Team 3.
However. after that game (about 25 minutes, no breaks) finished, Team 2 went straight on. I was off for 5-10 minutes, then got put on as a fullback for the rest of the time. I'm not a fullback. Or, at least, not a good one. I mean, I did well. I got the ball out of the goal circle several times, got it away nearly every time when I had a 'sixteen' (defensive psas out of the goal quarter). But the team they were playing against was a 'pass the ball' team with fewer ball skills. If they'd had more, then I'd probably have been in pretty big trouble.
Both the wings who played for Team 2 aren't as strong as me. One's only 17 and still finding her confidence/strength but her mum is a back in Team 2 and strong enough and needed enough. The other has previously mostly played inner in Team 3, but she's not strong enough to be an inner in this grade. Her closest friend in the club, though, is a really strong centre forward - too strong from Team 3 - and they want to play together, so they'll be in Team 2.
We're forward heavy, to be honest. I can play hallback and fullback, but I'm not great at it, particularly in the higher grades. And I'm not so good that the association (not my club, but the hockey association who runs the competition) won't let me play in Team 3 grade. They've done that with one of our players; she wanted to play in Team 3 last year, but she's known for a bit of hard-and-wild hitting, which most players at that grade aren't capable of stopping.
So. Not sure when games start, I thought it was from next week, but someone mentioned something about 'after easter' which is a fair while away. Not that I can play more than every second weekend for a while with the permaculture course on...
Anyway, I'm absolutely shattered this morning. The weekend was crazy busy: work upgrade, assorted bits and pieces, dinner with parentals, sewing group, church slides, and then hockey to finish it all off. Could seriously sleep for a whole day, but have permaculture group meeting tonight.
