We bought a house at auction. The only bidders. I don't know if that means we paid more than we should have, but it was definitely within our budget and we're happy with it.
Minimal work needed to move in - I'd like to redo the kitchen, reduce the back verandah covering, swap the driveway to the other side of the house, and turn the current driveway into a yard/garden, but the only thing we need to do is pull up the carpets and polish the floorboards. Oh, and check the insulation on the house, because it might very well be asbestos. Ick.
It's a small, compact house on a small, compact land (half a block, as compared to most houses with a full block). The living spaces face the north, which is good for us down here in the southern hemisphere. Unfortunately, most of the north-facing section of the property is also taken up by the driveway - hence my desire to move the driveway to the other side of the property and put a garden in.
B1 thinks we should just move the carport forward instead. Which works, too. Have to find out what's under the carport, though - land, or sewer, or what?
Although she and mother are both for putting up planter boxes instead. Again, that works...
So. We've exchanged contracts. It's six weeks to settlement, then the repairs, then moving in. It's all happening and I'm just sliiiiiightly terrified...
