Anyone reading this have medical background and the time to look through an SGA scenario and tell me how way off I am? It's more on the biogenetics/biochemistry angle than plague, disease, broken bones or triage.

(Basically this is a call for a medical beta other than [livejournal.com profile] sjhw_tolerance, who I am going to pester later.)

I'll have a go. I was a nurses' aide, so I am not sure how helpful I'll be, but I watch a lot of shows on the Discovery Network (before it got all crappy).

I'm a Biology student in my senior year, so genetics is definetely possible.

Be advised, though, that the Genetics on SGA is more than just wrong as they are presented in the show already.

For one, the whole retrovirus stuff is made up. Retroviruses can be inserted into the DNA, but even when you insert large amount of foreign DNA, you cannot have an effect like the one they show, which is basicall tranforming a vertebrate into something that evolved from a bug. In 'our' universe, there are 3 billion years of evolution seperating these lines, a chunk of DNA won't do it.

Another thing is the ATA gene and the gene therapy. The gene therapy is theoretically possible, but not really practible in the next decade or so and the detection of the ATA gene by Atlantis when you don't even touch anything is... well, science fiction.

The way they present Teyla and her Wraith part is also more than just *grr*-inducing in me.

But to their defense, they do make it sound plausible, so I'll try to help with that as much as I can.

Hehe, it's not that bad and I just sent off my reply to you. It's just when it's in the show itself that I want to throw cushions at my TV screen. A friend of mine is an anthropologist and she does the same with SG1. I love SGA anyway :)

I hope I could help you.
