Because, yes, I have to comment.
Yes, I'm biased, but Sharon feels very much like the Designated Love Interest for these movies. Not that she doesn’t have a purpose or her own storyline. But the relationship between Steve and Sharon is non-existent.
Steve hasn’t sought Sharon out in the aftermath of DC. He hasn’t looked for her in two years. If he had, he would have known she was Peggy’s niece before the funeral. If they were intimate and friendly, it would have come up sooner or later. Because damn sure you get that out of the way early on. You were in love with my aunt (ps. unless that brother was an unexpected a late Victory Day celebratory baby, who then didn’t have a kid until he was pushing middle age, then it’s gonna be ‘great-aunt’) is this going to be an issue?
(Also: it wouldn’t have been Sharon who sent him the text about Peggy being dead. There was no name on the text for starters, and if it was Sharon and they kept in touch about Peggy, then he wouldn’t have been surprised that Sharon was Peggy’s niece. Because, hello, LAST NAME.)
And now I have Carrie Underwood in my head, howling: "AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW HER LAAAASSST NAAAAAMEE! HER AAAAUNTY WOULD BEEEE SO AAAAASHAAAAMED."
Sharon helps him out by passing intel, by working with him and the others who are in agreement with Steve, gets him to Bucky, and gets out his equipment when they’re on the run.
This all happens over the course of a couple of days at best – maybe a week if we’re really stretching the timeline. Sorry, folks. That’s not a relationship, it’s an attraction. And, moreover, one that they’ve barely acted upon in two years.
So Sharon brings Steve his shield and gear, and Sam’s wings and gear, they stare at each other, they kiss. There's something about it being "took long enough" which, uh, yes, two years during which they didn't keep in contact. They have an audience of Sam and Bucky in the car, identical shit-eating grins on their faces, and when Steve spots this, he's exasperated with them.
The moment is played for humour, not romance or passion or character development. I mean, sure, Rhodey gets to watch Tony and Pepper smooch before rolling his eyes and walking away, but they really were getting into it there.
Hence my conclusion about Sharon being the Designated Love Interest. She has a purpose outside that in the movie – she’s Helpful Insider – but when it comes to what’s between her and Steve? It’s a Cute Start, but nothing more than that. Steve hasn’t looked for her in a year or two, and Sharon hasn’t followed him up – the canon tells us that straight out.

I was willing to give Steve/Sharon half a chance, if they could persuade me. But if the writer of Cap 3 thinks this is a romance, then I’d probably completely miss what they think is a light flirtation.
tl;dr: Was not convinced that this is anything more than Slightly Further Along From A Cute Start. (Because Cap 2 was A Cute Start.)

Yeah, I really like Sharon in the comics, and I think EvC is a pretty good actress, but I don't think she's got a really good or even believable part here. Those are good points about how if they'd been in touch at all, he would have KNOWN WHO SHE IS, too (that's still annoying me, even though I know that's sort-of in the comics. I just dislike what they did with it).
I headcanon that Sharon hooks up with Captain's Orders Guy, AKA Cameron something, from TWS. Now that is a meet-cute I can get behind. ("The first time I met her, she rescued me from being shot in the head!")

Eh. IDEK. Maybe in the next movie we discover he and Sharon have hooked up and everything. I just feel like this was painfully forced, without any of the long-term friendship/intimacy/challenge of Peggy back in CA1.
