One of my friends helped design this game! Elliot, who I've been playing D&D with since 2017, has been working on a top secret project for several years now, and he finally got to admit that this was it because the trailer dropped this afternoon.
Honestly, it looks like a lot of fun. And unlike Mario Party, it's not system locked so you and anyone you're playing with can be on different devices. Considering the huge number of game assets that he designed? I'm so very proud of him.
Notes on the first 4 prakim of Tractate Oaths, of which two of them were not about oaths at all.

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.
Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?
There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.
This Week's Question: We all probably have multiple WiPs, but which of yours has been hanging around longest, waiting to be finished?
If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

Read
- Corambis by Katherine Addison - fourth and final book in the series. what a bizarre series. Like a trainwreck, couldn't look away. I talked about this in one of the crafting hangouts that I think I understand why her Tomb of Dragons has gone the way it has now that I've read this series, because I think she doesn't really write easy or simple stories. This series was about losing your place, over and over and over again and how to find the people that you should really stick with when all else has gone away. And some weird magic/sex stuff but hey, whatever. Library e-book
- A Drizzle of Magic by S. Usher Evans - I think I missed something by not reading the first one, but also this book is primarily about the main character walking across town and having discussions with other people. Somewhat dull, I guess there was a conclusion but I don't really remember it. Library e-book
- Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki - this book was so delightful and funny to me. There are three main characters and they are all living in different genres of book and the interactions are hilarious and so good. Library audiobook
- The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society by CM Waggoner - this book is so funny. It's a book for you if you like funny old ladies and meta about murder mysteries and that one town who has so many murdered people in it. I spent much of my time trying to pin-point exactly where the fake town was located because it was placed in upstate NY in my old stomping grounds. I think the closest would be Ballston Spa although it could be in the Guilderland area as well. Library audiobook
- Countess by Suzan Palumbo - nice little novella, enjoyed it, nice writing style. library e-book
- Once Upon a Tome by Oliver Darkshire - the author read this one in a more conversational style than most e-book readers and it was a delightful listen. semi-fictional day in the life of a book antiquarian. library audiobook
- The Mermaid, the Witch and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall - really good book, has some great gender, some great fantasy and magic. library e-book
- Unnatural Magic by CM Waggoner - magical mysteries and really neat magic systems. set in the same world as The Ruthless Lady's Guide but in a different time and place. This was the author's first book, so I can see how the world was refined to what it was in the The Ruthless Lady's Guide. Also some cross species relations that were interesting. library e-book
- Artificial Condition by Martha Wells - I love Murderbot. library e-book
- The Grief of Stones by Katherine Addison - listen. they're good. library e-book
- The Wizard Hunters by Martha Wells - I will never get over that the wizards have guns, I love this series so much. library e-book
- The Ruthless Lady's Guide to Wizardry by CM Waggoner - deeply delightful book that I enjoyed a second time. library e-book
- Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells - library audiobook - definitely an interesting experience to listen to the book instead of read it. Felt like it slowed the action down a bit.
- The Ships of Air by Martha Wells - they are having a very busy week in this series. library e-book
- The Gate of Gods by Martha Wells - the book was available when I finished the last one, so I just read it immediately. SO GOOD. library e-book
DNF
- Celestial Monsters by Aiden Thomas - I DNF this one because I am no longer on my small YA kick like when I read the first one, I'm finding YA irritating these days, so this was simply not for me. Library e-book
What a wasted opportunity.
I'm glad I went, though, for all its wasted opportunities and long-winded metaphor-straining speeches and a prerecorded speech from a chancellor that included a plug to sign up for the alumni association while detailing its many features. My sister in law E. and older brother J. seemed happy about it, and I'll know I was willing to make an effort to show up.

Yes, Hume Lake, a week each summer 1991-1995.
2. Have you ever made a s'more?
Of course. However, I need to try a version my friend posted the other day: skewer a Reese's PB cup, dip in marshmallow creme, then roast it.
3. Have you ever slept under the stars (no tent/tarp)?
Maaaaaaaaaybe? I think I did for one night with my 4th grade Girl Scout troop.
4. Have you ever had a member of the opposite sex sleep over at your house?
Yes.
5. What type of bed do you have (queen, twin, bunk, etc.)?
Queen, in a black metal frame. Nearly 20 year old mattress and box spring that's still comfy, but horrifies my sister.
We opened for strawberry picking today for a half day from 8am to 12pm. This meant I was down at the field setting up at 6:45am because there was much to do. Me and dad had moved the RST (rolling selling thingy which is a prototype ice fishing house they got ten years ago now) and plopped it down at the west farm late last night but didn't finish setup because it was already 8pm. I had trouble falling asleep because I ate dinner almost at 9pm.
First customer got there at 7:15am. Sigh. We had lots of pickers and everything ripe pretty much got picked. It's light picking currently, we only have a few early varieties and so they ripen ahead of the main season. We warn people picking is light and they simply don't listen.
I was On Register the whole time. It's exhausting doing retail stuff. I understand why my mom doesn't want to do it anymore but my god I absolutely 100% don't want to do it. We're getting a worker for half of the days and she's starting next week, so I have to suffer through this weekend. I need to find a farm partner/worker who really likes that shit because it's terrible. I don't mind doing it for a little bit but ugh. Exhausting
While chatting with a customer, I got the idea to make pancakes for lunch with strawberries and whipped cream. So I did that. And then I had a 30 min nap on the couch.
I successfully did a new thing this afternoon: fertigating! Irrigation + fertilizer, it has a whole complicated setup.
One thing I've been trying to figure out how to manage is my garden. I haven't worked on it at all. Once I'm done for the day, I'm tired enough that I don't want to go back out and do more stuff out there. Part of it is that I thought about my work hours (6 days a week, 8am to 7pm with an hour lunch = 60 hours a week), well duh I'm tired a lot. So I think I'm just going to give it up for now and figure out something for next year. I've got peas and potatoes in the ground and I'll be happy to eat them when they're ready. I think I need to narrow my focus a bunch to maybe some small flowers around the house and then see if I can manage something else at some point.
I started watching The Repair Shop again and boy howdy it's a delight as always. I also have realized I want to be like Jay, the host. He's so dapper and also a furniture restorer. And I started the next season of Taskmaster which has been a gosh darn delight.
Thank goodness it won't be as hot for a couple of days coming up. Full body sweating. Ick.

Summary:
Jareth spots new prey
Stranger to the Ball
Jareth smiles as he sees the stranger. It's not often that one of them wanders into the spaces between worlds. Still, they can be interesting in their own ways, if they are not too lost in the ennui of living so long.
Living, for certain values thereof, Jareth amends in his mind.
He maneuvers his way in that direction, watching the stranger take in all of the oddities of the ball's participants. Masks that are cunningly crafted to deliver only a facet of the wearer's personality are works of art, some reeking of the arcane energies invested in them. Others do little to hide the person behind it, much as his own registers as regal and capricious.
A flick of his hand, and Jareth sees to the man's garb, turning it from passable nobility to proper formality and frivolity, the crimson threads shot through the dark cloth with sinister flair.
His guest doesn't notice at first, and Jareth is annoyed, wondering which of his court lured the man in. Yet then the change is appreciated, seen in the mirrored column betwixt dancers. His lovely red-headed courtier seems intent on interception, and he snaps a small stinging swat at her with his magic, forcing her to move on.
"And what, my lonesome wolf, brings such as you to my demesnes?" he asks as he steps into the man's field of vision, setting the mask on its baton to one side, smiling at his most charming.
"I… do not know. I followed a girl…" Already the effect of the court is pressing on the stranger, and Jareth feels a surge of giddy pleasure in the idea of keeping this one for a time.
"There are plenty of women present, but surely, having been led astray by the fairer sex, some time in more masculine company might be preferred?" Jareth invites. "Call me Jareth," he says easily, enjoying the way the man licks at his lips unconsciously.
"Nicki," the stranger gives. "Nicolas de Brabant."
Jareth felt the compulsion of his court pull the full name forth, sees the small frown for having given it, and he reaches with his free hand to stroke the cheek of his interesting distraction.
"This place is unlike any you have seen, and you may enjoy yourself… even to you nature, darling Nikki," Jareth croons at him, before vanishing his mask away, freeing his hands. "A night of dance among those who are not as the mortals you dally among, hmm? Perhaps… with more private dances after?"
His temptations linger, darkening the eyes, before the man tries to deny himself, to find a way out.
For now, Jareth lets him go, but he saw the desire, for that moment, and knows he will find his prey in time.
Perhaps he will deign to dally among mortals to find this Nicki, watching the vampire be caught in several dancers' hands on his way to finding the exit.
"Your hungers could match mine, if you freed them fully."
Kind of late for a first entry but here is one.
Has fandom changed or have I?
I was never in a fandom until the 2000’s. I did not know what a ‘zine was. I did not know what a con was. I never heard of fanfiction. I was a Star Wars fan from way back.
I got into the LOTR fandom right after the first movie came out. It was quite hostile, to be honest. There were wars between character writers and real person writers, between shippers of different pairings, between hetters and slashers. It was ugly. There was gatekeeping then, too.
I decided early on that I came into this not to fight but to enjoy and I did. I had my own website and ran a Yahoo group that hosted at least 100 stories a week in its heyday. I welcomed all. It wasn’t perfect but it was good.
Is today different?
I think so. I think we have a reflection of our divisive society in fandom. There are things we’re not ‘allowed’ to write now because they might upset someone. There are people who want to police Ao3 to make sure it doesn’t hurt their feelings and that it does reflect their ‘moral’ codes. An example is someone once complained because characters were eating meat and I did not warn for it.
Ao3 was born to combat gatekeeping and censorship in fandom. Other sites caved. Fanfic dot com made their site completely shite when they kicked all the adult stories out. I never bothered with them again. Livejournal was sold once then again to some Russian oligarch who decided to purge all adult anything, because there were rumblings of kiddie porn, and by that, I mean stories with underage fictional characters. Ao3 was born out of frustration over these events and others like them.
So what do you do about these things?
As of today, we do still have freedom of speech here in the US, where Ao3 is based. I say let people write what they will, as long as they are not inciting specific violence. Writers write violence, rape, child abuse out of a need for catharsis many times. Or maybe they are angry and rather than take it out on a real person, they write something violent. Let it be. We write for our own reasons and we don’t owe any explanations of those to anyone.
Oddly enough, the young seem to be the ones who want to gatekeep. Life is hard, kids. If you don’t want to read certain kinds of fiction, then DON’T CLICK ON IT. It’s that simple.
Fandom has changed but not that much. There will always be those who want more rules and to control others. That’s life. We must guard against that and keep fandom and fans free to express themselves.

Anyway, the reason I have not nominated is that I am waiting to see what else got nominated to help me whittle down what I want to nominate, and I just checked the nominations and I think that
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Here are some nominations I am planning:
TGE: Maia/Csethiro/Csevet/Vedero (there are a bunch of TGE ships already nominated but they are all suuuuuuuper rare)
DS9: Sisko ships, Worf/Jadzia, Miles/Keiko/Kira/Bashir
TOS: Spock/Uhura and some foursomes (although someone on the Yuletide discord may be nominating sedoretus in this fandom, which would mean I don't have to nominate them and could free up a slot)
B5: John/Delenn, John/Delenn/Lennier, Delenn/Neroon, John/Delenn/Lennier/? (I don't know who I'd put with those three to complete the sedoretu--Anna, maybe? a Minbari OC?)
Peter Wimsey, sedoretu with Parker and Mary? Or Bunter? (Although I can't think of who would be the fourth in a sedoretu with Bunter, so I may just leave that as a poly threesome.
Rivers of London--I think just Peter/Beverly here, because I can't think of any sedoretus and ever since we learned that Nightingale was ace (in the novella Masquerades of Spring) that has completely killed any desire to ship him, for me. RoL is the only one on the list that's iffy, because much as I love it I'm not sure how much I'm into RoL + marriage tropes.
That's six, and with BSG taken care of I can look at some of my other fandoms for the seventh slot. Here are some options:
SW Legends, Han/Leia/Luke/Mara, Han/Leia/Lando, Lando/Luke/Mara. Han/Leia/Lando most properly belongs in SW OT, but that would mean using a second Star Wars nomination slot.
TNG: nobody's nominated this yet, and I can't think of any sedoretus, but I would probably do something like Picard/Guinan (my TNG rare pair OTP), Picard/Ro, Riker/Ro, Troi/Worf, and Data/Geordi
Random Harvest. Look, this movie is just so tropey and melodramatic it would be amazing to pile even more tropes into it.

I have a 10-month-old grandson whom I adore, but I'm not allowed to kiss him -- not even on the back of his head. Recently, in a moment of pure affection, I forgot and gently kissed the back of his head. It was instinctual. I love him so much, it just happened.
The reaction was swift and harsh. I was scolded and now I'm not allowed to hold him unless he's sitting on my lap, facing away from me. To make matters worse, I'm only allowed to see him every other weekend for two hours, and someone has to be in the room to supervise me the entire time.
I've tried to talk to my son about it, but any attempt leads to an argument or a shutdown. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells just to be near my grandson, and my heart is breaking.
Is there anything I can do in this situation? I feel so lost. -- Heartbroken Nana

2. Dear Annie: I've been dating a wonderful man for five years, and for the most part, our relationship is strong and loving. We don't live together, so we typically see each other just a couple of times a week, with more time together when we go on vacation. That time feels precious to me. But lately, I've found myself increasingly frustrated, and I'm not sure how to bring it up without sounding jealous or petty.
The issue is his 30-year-old son, who calls or texts him constantly, even when we're on vacation. It's not about emergencies -- just frequent check-ins or casual conversations that end up interrupting our time together. I understand and respect the bond between a father and son, but I can't help feeling like a third wheel when we're supposed to be enjoying quality time as a couple.
I don't want to compete for attention, and I certainly don't want to damage their relationship. I just wish my partner could create some boundaries during our time together so we can stay focused on each other.
How can I bring this up in a way that's honest but kind, and without sounding like I'm being unreasonable? -- Feeling Overlooked

Her physical abuse stopped when I fought back at 17. When I was 18, it was the last time her precious prince of a son raised his fist to me because I told him I'd press charges and have him arrested. The sexual abuse had stopped when I was 12, and I realized she'd known what had been happening the whole time. It also ended my wanting a relationship with my mother, but her emotional abuse continued until she died in 2013.
I am being told that, because she's dead, I should just let it go. My siblings backed her because they wanted to be in Mommy's good graces. After years of hatred and abuse, I believed the only family I had were my own two children, but even they are cold to me now. They scold me -- "Your mother's dead. Get over it."
