Finally saw Moana at a friend's house. Was just dropping something off for her to give to a friend during her trip to DC from tomorrow, and she and the hubs were out in the garden doing household things, so I went inside and found the kids watching Moana.

I'd never seen it before, although I think I must have listened to the soundtrack at least once, because a lot of the music seemed really familiar. So I sat down and started watching it.

I'd definitely heard "How Far I'll Go" and "We Know The Way" and "You're Welcome" which are the big three songs, I think.

And yes, I enjoyed it a lot.

One thing disturbed me - I had it in my head that the voyaging chieftain was sung by Lin-Manuel Miranda, but watching the music video, it's a relief to see that it's not - that he's just the narrator for the voyagers, and the chieftain's part is voiced by (presumably) Opetaia Foa'i.

"Shiny" is the other 'big' song I think. There are videos for all four (with subtitles) on Disney's official YouTube channel, which I found myself playing a *lot* before the dvd was out, to keep my small Moana fan happy.

Oh yes, Shiny! I hadn't heard that one - it was an interesting song, which my friend said was a Bowie tribute in style. Not really my thing, but once she pointed it out, it was very Bowie.

I have been wondering whether to watch that one. I just watched Zootopia this weekend (it won) and decided I must buy it.

And isn't Zootopia wonderful? I watched it on the plane while travelling last year and enjoyed it very much!

One of my favorite movies by Disney. They really treated the Polynesian culture well. Glad you got to see it.
