Well you could seek out the ones that seem to at least loosely fit your profile and friend *them* and ask for a friendback.
I have to admit, when I get into a fandom, I often go onto random friending sprees. Like immediately friend somebody because they have written a fic I liked, friend somebody because they have *commented* on a fic I liked, hell, I have friended people because I really liked their icon (subsequently, yes, I have also unfriended people over an icon I didn't like; Seems to only fit with my friending preference).
I've been thinking about the whole unpopular fandoms and unpopular fandom opinions thing lately (mostly because I was formulating a reply to this post (http://fanaticalone.livejournal.com/182959.html)) and it's sad how it usually always boils down to effort and how it's sad that even if one is ready to bring that effort and then you can't find a partner in crime who is willing to do the same.
