In all honesty, I only know that fragment from a segment in Shadow Of The Moon by M.M.Kaye about the Indian sepoy mutiny of the 1860s - the male protag quotes it to the female protag while they're discussing local politics.

Generally, though, I've been having this desire to start gifsetting or vidmaking poetry and songs about dictators and dangers to the US political situation and posting them on YT. This is one of the fragments that came to mind.

LOL. Only through her historicals. I somehow got my hands on Shadow Of The Moon when I was maybe 12 or so, and was up until 3am reading it. I read The Far Pavilions and Trade Wind a few years later and they didn't really pull me quite the same way, so I never read her mysteries.

But, yes, I know of M.M.Kaye! (And I had to look up Paul Scott. That's quite a resume, to have covered Arthur C Clark, Mervyn Peake, and M.M.Kaye...)

Yeah, he wrote Raj Quartet which I read and loved after seeing the amazing BBC adaptation, so I had to find out everything I could about it. I have his letters, LOL. When I fall I am a completist.

*googles* Sounds interesting! Might give the first one a try... I mostly read historical romance for turning off my brain, but a little more historical/political fiction would probably be a good idea right now.

They are really really good. He is quite good at women characters -- there's two, Sarah and Barbara, who are just amazing and my favourites in the books.

I am entirely unfamiliar with that but it is indeed beautifully done and apropos.
