Debate on racism in Stargate fandom - comments are now frozen, so no more posting. But some interesting commentary.

My $0.02? Racism - the unconscious, more subtle, you-won't-see-it-coming kind, not the KKK type - really is a problem in the Stargate show and in Stargate fandom.

To counter the depressing nature of that thought, a Multifannish Love Meme by [livejournal.com profile] smittywing. I actually went and posted something. Feel like a complete idjit. But posted.

I don't know that I have much *squee* for Stargate Atlantis anymore. But I managed to drum up a little.

And there's an Icontest over at [livejournal.com profile] teylafen.

Oh, and the Isis Awards need some people willing to verify the John/Teyla fics - just read them through and confirm that they're about the appropriate pairing, legible, and readable. Actually, people to verify the Teyla/anyone fics, really. Mail me or comment beneath this post, please.

*raises hand*

How fast does it have to be? I have a project to hand in on Friday, but after that I'd love/have no problem to help verify. I'll even do Teyla/Ronon :)

Yay :)

Just assign me whatever category on Friday or later :D I don't wanna get tempted :D

I got no squicks and I can do long fics if there are any. I tend to be a fast reader.

Either/or. I'm not keen on hard kinks, if that's an issue, but if I'm just skimming for legibility it shouldn't be a problem.

So first - I would be willing to verify Teyla/anyone fics, if you still need people. Also happy to read for anyone.

I hear you on the racism thing. I just watched A Gentleman's Agreement for the first time: 1947, Elia Kazan film with Gregory Peck that tackled antisemitism. It was really eye-opening and I could see the parallels to today and the unconscious (or conscious) racism/prejudice almost everyone exhibits normally. I really liked the film b/c even as it deals with this subject, it is also just a really good film that focuses on other things, like falling in love, and dealing with one's family.

I will have to check out that post re: SG inherent racism.

If you still need people to help verify, I can do either.

Pairings/people don't bother me, I can read anyone - so really, anything you need.

SG1 is fine as well if you're short on people there. I don't have any pairing preferences, I'll read whatever you need.

*smooches you*

Looks like you've got a lot of volunteers anyway, but you can put me down too. I imagine that I've read the vast majority of them already. Otherwise I can have a gander at the non-Teyla ones if needs be.

I noticed ♥ Thank you :)

I feel like such a Pollyanna among all this brouhaha where I know nothing is without context but feeling like I spend so much energy being indignant about unfairness in real life that in my fandom space I just want to say, look! pretty pictures! Let's all be happy now!

And speaking of pictures, I have Teyla dancing with John as per request (from a long long time ago :) but as far as I can see, unfortunately not much passion. More like friends who might be more. I guess you'll just have to settle for that :/
