We're just drifting in to Moreton Island/Tangalooma today. Yesterday was a nice day cruising at sea, after a crazy day on Monday getting away.
I think the only thing I wish about my roomies was that they were a little more willing to come out at nights. They're more excited about being able to do whatever they want to do without having to give in to someone else's wish: watch a movie, read a book, not have to prepare or pay for meals or calculate the bill.
Which, for married suburban mothers is a BIG THING and I understand it. I just don't share it, because my time is my own and has pretty much always been. It would be nice to have someone who was a little more "ooh, let's not stay in and watch whatever movie is on" let's go out and sit in the bar, have a drink (mocktail/cocktail, I don't care), and listen to some live music.
Otherwise, it's been quite lovely cruising with these ladies.
Today is the shore excursion to the island just off Brisbane; I'd like to go out to the wrecks, but I don't think my cohort wants to - they just want to go walking on land. I think I'd like to know more about the indigenous people of this island - it's so close to the mainland, and the 'other' name of the island sounds like something from the indigenous people "Tangalooma", so there must be some history there. (TBH, it will probably be 'death, murder, rape, and brutality' b/c let's be real, the English have never been particularly good to indigenous populations, but I think it's still important to know the story, to be aware of what we as a people - as the human race - are capable of doing. cf America, land of thefree caged children.)
I might just arrange to meet them back on the ship for lunch.
