I'm in a kind of "I'm here, don't ask questions" state of mind right now. I turn up, I do my time, I check out. It's not quite ennui, just a holding pattern that feels more or less endless.
Truly told, I'm not quite sure what I'm expecting of life and living right now.
Hockey has been good in some respects - I scored a goal two weeks ago, I scored a goal that was disallowed last week, and I had two assists this weekend. But quite a few people told me I was playing really well; I think various older members of the team may have started taking on the role of encouragement since our coach is so shit at it. I must remember to do some of that myself - praise, not just crit (or even concrit).
At the peak of winter, all the gardening things are happening. Last week was woodchip mulch and moving it to where it's gotta go. Today's thing is an apricot tree and bags of horseshit from out towards the north-east. I should see if I can arrange any other swaps while I'm up that way.
There was a shooting in our area last week. Not a mass shooting (4 or more unrelated people randomly chosen) but a DV shooting. DV trigger warning: A father in a custody battle for his children, entered his wife's residence one suburb south of us and shot both his children, then went back to his home one suburb north of us and shot himself. Worst part? The mother was the one to find her children. It's shaken the community a little, because the family was established in the area - kids went to the primary school one street over from my house, grew up and went to the local high schools with the sons and daughters of my friends at church.
Finally, work will be going quiet after the end of next week. I might be back in August, but in the meantime the contracting company will probably send me off somewhere else. Apparently there are a few people taking holidays over the winter to escape the mundaneity of the work routine while battling the brisk winter weather, and they need someone to fill in those spaces...

It sounds like you're being super productive at home though!
My heart goes out to everyone affected. That sort of thing just sucks.

I think one of the interesting (And good) things about it is that many of the major gun associations in the state and country are asking "so where did we and our processes go wrong, how did this guy who was given a 'stay away' order by the courts, get hold of a weapon, and how can we improve our processes?" Hell, even the local gun clubs wouldn't let him in because they sensed there was something 'weird' about him.
We have a lot of shit wrong in this country, but BY GOD at least we're getting this thing right.
