Disclaimer (in case you didn't realise): there are "ninjabread cookie cutters" and I used these to make the shapes.

But they were pretty neat!

Excellent! I have those ninjabreadmen cookies, and for reasons I cannot fathom have not yet actually used them. I must watch Bake-Off for biscuit inspiration. It had not occurred to me to use them for crumpets!

I mean, I've never made crumpets before until I needed to use excess sourdough starter and then... :D

But I have made cookies with them. They didn't turn out quite as I expected since the cookie dough swelled when baking. They were still ninjas, just a bit chubby...

They are rather cute! And pretty tasty, although they needed more of the bubble-holes typical of crumpets.

The link in the post is the recipe for the crumpets. You can use the old sourdough discards from when you feed your starter, and it uses a whole cup!

so do you just put the cookie cutters in the frypan and cook them inside?
I assume they are metal cutters and not plastic :P

Yep. Butter/oil them, then put the cookie cutters in the oiled/buttered frypan (tip: make sure the frypan has a flat surface), and carefully dollop the batter in.

ahh, I wouldn't have thought to butter the cutters too!

Having done it before without buttering the cutters, DEFINITELY butter the cutters!
