I watched the first episode of The Umbrella Academy over the weekend while sewing together finicky quilt blocks. (Actually, I watched while pulling out paper backings from English paper Pieced blocks.)

Just the first episode.

How'd you guys find the rest of it?

To be filmed in Canada!

I should have said, "I found it to have been filmed in Toronto, Canada. That was my entire reaction.

It wasn't even that I wasn't interested, it was just that Husband was watching, and I was in the room doing something else. I was half looking, but I had come into it in the middle.

So...my only impressions were, "Ellen Page!!!" and then "Is this filmed in Toronto? Hey! I was right!"

It looked interesting, and I've heard both, "This is fantastic!" and "Eh...not as well done as other things handling this concept."

I liked it. I felt like it got better as it went on. There are a few things that I didn't like (but they're spoilery), but on the whole it was a good watch. It's pretty violent - not quite Tarantino levels, but definitely in that vein - so if that's a turn off for you, be warned or possibly steer clear.

I've watched four episodes so far. I'm enjoying it. It definitely gets better after the first episode.

I haven't seen it, but it seems to be the hot new five-minute thing taking over my flist from Russian Doll (haven't managed to watch that yet either). It doesn't sound like my kind of thing -- too violent, too goofy -- and there are dozens and dozens of other shows and movies I've been meaning to watch for forever, so I'm not that interested. (I don't do that thing a lot of people do where they put on shows for background noise, or distraction while they're doing something else; that drives me nuts.)

The other thing is, it seems to also be the hot new non-Marvel thing Netflix is trying to grab new viewers/keep old viewers with, and after they killed Jessica Jones BEFORE EVEN SHOWING THE THIRD SEASON I was thisclose to cancelling my membership, so. I resentfully am not interested in whatever shiny they want me to check out now now now to make their non-Marvel numbers bounce. I'm sure if it's something I'll actually enjoy it'll keep until I want to check it out.

-- Mind you, if they had adapted Mother Panic (of Young Animals/DC) instead, I would have been on that like SPOTS ON DICE, as the fine old blues song goes. But that's about a GURL and written by a GURL, nobody wants that amirite?

Yeah, recently I rewatched Defenders, TWICE. It's not even that great! But it was definitely brain comfort food.

I rage quit at the end of episode 8 (when I hit strike three of Things I Just Don't Like).

But aside from that, it's the KIND of story I like. Just...not all of the details.
