I want to write an article about how "godliness is the new grace".
Basically, it amounts to the belief - an exceedingly common one - that you are saved based on whether you do the right thing, have the right opinions, hold the right views.
Right now, the lines of 'godliness' among self-identified Christians are being drawn over abortion, LGBTQI issues, roles of women, and if you fall on the wrong side of that line, then you're obviously not really a Christian because you're not 'godly'.
*sigh*

So the weekend is looking a squidge busy of a sudden. I have a hockey pre-season game on Friday night (last one of three, 6-a-side, we tend to lose really badly), and a hockey pre-season game on Sunday morning (first one of three, regular size team, but the coaches are using it to grade players in our club for the teams).
Then the parentals have decided they need to see us (the daughters three) before they go away (again). To which end, my mother has been trying to herd us all towards a date that works for everyone. That was an effort and a half, but apparently tomorrow afternoon is the chosen date and time, there will be an early dinner and B1 will come home to do her Saturday night work.
I am thinking I'm going to leave my car at the station and just catch the train home.
Sunday morning is the hockey game, Sunday afternoon is a crop swap (not too far away, but far away enough), and Sunday evening is church.
And then it's Monday.

Work is...not busy. I don't know if it's just that people won't give me work, but I seem to have a lot of time free, and I don't quite know what to do with myself. I mean, I feel like I could work half days and still get done all the stuff that's needed...

Oh, I would love to read that.
When the gay marriage survey was happening, I was arguing with a friend on Facebook and he told me off for disagreeing with him because "This is a salvation issue!" Which... no. I could have entirely incorrect opinions on the subject of sexuality (or anything else) and still be saved, because salvation is not achieved by correct theology. (If he'd been concerned about people believing the things in the Nicene Creed, I could maybe concede his point - but guess how much gay marriage is mentioned in the NC?)

So many Christians would argue "grace, not works" and then turn around and say, "but if you don't fall on the 'godly' side of these issues then you're obviously not a real Christian"...
