When you want to like... gush about how incredibly happy you are that they commented and they're reading and they like it and OMG but you also don't want to sound stupid by leaving that same comment on every single comment you get and also maybe it's too much, or it makes you look ridiculously desperate, and what do you even *say* anyway?

I'm lucky in that I have a regular readership, so I don't always have to give a meaningful response to what they've written, or I can talk a bit more about the things that I know they liked about the story...

I think the fact that I skip around in genre/theme a lot has kept me from having regular followers as much as I might otherwise.
