What do you do if a co-worker starts talking about something fannish, but not to you?

If it is on a topic that I am familiar with, I JUMP RIGHT IN.

Is the co-worker aware you are a fan of The Thing? If yes, eh, leave it be. If they're not aware, dive in?

I'm always non-fannish at work because you just never know who it's safe to talk to and who is gonna give you judgemental looks. If they don't know you're a safe person to be fannish with then you could let them know that you are & hopefully you'll be included in the next fannish conversation :)
(In a hypothetical situation where the conversation is still ongoing, I would probably pop my head up and be all "oh I couldn't help overhearing, I love [x] thing too!" and try and join in.)

Depends on the co-worker. I tend to not reveal my fannish behaviors except to those I trust.

It depends on the co-worker and the fandom. I tend to not admit I know as much about a fannish thing as I do - like when people are talking about Star Wars I chime in, but in a generic sort of way.

I might mention something later; "I heard you're into ---."

If I can hear them and have opinions: Sure I'll jump right in. But then my coworkers are used to me crashing their conversations with my opinions.
