Yesterday I made biscuits. Lots of them. Four different types. In freezer-suitable balls, just ready to bake. They're now in the freezer and some of them are baked: three fruit-and-oat, two cherry choc-chip, two white choc chip and macadamia, two cinnamon sugar, one colourful sprinkles.

Struggling with the writing right now. I reached a 'point of rest' and my next section is a bit fuzzy. And while I've been trying to nut out what's going on, I've ID'd at least two scenes which I either lost or didn't write the first time and which need to be put in, and have been sketching those out.

Then everything happened regarding George Floyd and the protests in America, and I'm worried for my friends, for the people protesting, for the people being used as shields, and for the people who are going to die.

And the feeling of inertia in my local communities, the blindness of most to understand that the heart of what's happening over there is also happening in hearts over here.

I can't do more than pray for what's happening in the US, in the UK, for the lies people tell themselves. But I'm trying to act in the only way I have available right now: speak up, educate, encourage others to act in ways that they can act now - before it's too late to act at all.

Turns out the Australian government is instigating the 'you must jump through hoops to get your unemployment benefits' requirement again. From...apparently this month.

"You must give a go to get a go," says Scott Morrison, our PM. And all those people who got let go at QANTAS or local Murdoch media outlets? Did they not give a go hard enough for the government, after the government gave them billions in support? Where's the accountability? Where's the hoops that QANTAS or Murdoch should jump through?

The hoops are not great for me. 4 jobs a week don't generally come up in my area. Which means I'll be sending ridiculously over-qualified (or under-qualified) resumes to otherwise pointless jobs.

Here's the thing: I have never worked retail. I have never worked hospitality. While I can do these jobs, I have no experience at them. And the jobs that I have done, there is maybe one new job a week right now, and they usually require experience that I don't have.

I got my first IT job straight out of school twenty five years ago, and the only other two jobs I've worked at was front desk and office admin for an engineering firm, and delivery driver. Those two jobs are barely required anymore, there's an excess of people to do them.

eta: I just called a number who contacted me yesterday about a contract in Sydney. They matched the price I was asking for - except I just realised that's the programmer price, not the integration consultant prince they wanted. Bugger...

Just send an email back to them asking if I could up the rate. More for me means more for them, I think. But if not...it's still more than I've been getting before this.

I was going to post the start of my fannish meme answers in this post, but I don't think I will. This can be cordoned off for those who are okay to read my stress, and I'll post the lighter stuff separately.

*hugs* Your PM sounds like a complete waste of organic molecules. Good luck on the job and writing fronts!
