I really do; the disappointment at being so close is an absolute kicker.

And then, even once the results come through, there's the fact that it was so close when it should have been a walkover, that some major losses also took place in areas that could be afforded but barely just, that whole groups got left out for want of game 'on the ground', that the progressive side of the Dems are (still) hopping mad - and, of course, that whoever wins the presidency the matter of it all is that the American electoral system has lost. Or is lost.

There is no more legitimacy held in the democratic process. Certainly not by the Trump base. To them, it's that either he wins or nobody does.

The hopeful part of me wants to put money on "Biden takes the presidency, the Georgia runoff takes the Senate, Mitch McConnell dies of a medical episode in the next week" but...I know the odds. They're long. And prognostication is not my thing.

eta: Georgia went blue about an hour ago, apparently it was John Lewis' district that stayed up to count Biden over the edge. I bet that was sweet. God keep those men and women safe tonight and through the next forty-eight hours.

You have to love these people who are so willing to give their hours. They're devoted to doing things right, and it makes me proud.

I totally cried. I just about lost it right there in my living room, realizing what had happened.

Sadly, the election workers counting in Arizona have to have sheriffs escort them to their cars and provide protection because there's Trump supporters outside of a fence (put up to keep them out), some of whom have guns.
