We think Honey chicken has the same ailment that Hainan had earlier this year - peronitis, where the egg gets stuck in the chicken's body and basically gets them infected. She's swollen and sits a lot and is pretty listless.

Of course, we realise this right at the cusp of a weekend where we are going away. So we booked an appointment for Monday afternoon once we get back and...we wait to see if she survives the weekend.

I feel bad for leaving her in pain, but short of finding someone else to take her to the vet over the weekend or wringing her neck, there wasn't much that could be done straight off. Our neighbours are coming over to feed and water the cats and chooks, but this is not in the playbook for them at all, so we just warned her and told her not to worry if Honey drops dead.

But pretty much the instant we get back to Sydney, she'll be whisked off to the vet.

In Berry for the stepbrother's wedding. Staying in an airbnb that's been converted from a working farm, with a pond and a beautiful view of the paddocks south.

It's a lovely day, going to be some gorgeous photos. A little colder than Sydney, though, so I am vastly unprepared for the weather. Am contemplating going into town to pick up a light jacket/cardi before we have to head out.

The wedding isn't without its tensions. Stepbrother's mother (my stepdad's ex) is still bitter about the separation/divorce (in spite of being happily married for 10 years) and basically does a lot of avoiding of my mum and my stepdad. Also, excluding her sons' father (my stepdad) from the day as much as possible. *sigh*

Anyway, we're about 15 minutes out from leaving.

I send good vibes on the chicken surviving the weekend, and for there to be very little drama at the wedding.
