cone of shame initiated

Smokey is decidedly unhappy.

We were given two cones of shame, a soft one and a hard one. The soft one was supposed to see if it would deter her, but she was determined, and after nearly a day of things looking okay and healing over...she licked it raw again. Ugh.

So we've put the hard cone on her. Behind the soft one, because she'll endure the hard one behind the soft one, but if we take the soft one away she just tries to back out of the hard one, and that's all she does.

So far, the hard cone is working to keep her from licking her hindquarters, but it makes her eating and going to the toilet an absolute PITA. But we'll have to endure, at least until the weekend.

It's going to be a very long week.

We are enduring. It's not great, but she's getting used to it. Sort of. But, yeah, it's a lot all at once.

Poor little thing. I hope she heals fast. I had to go through that with our dog recently. I still have to keep the cone in view so she won't chew on her paws. (allergies--she takes a pill every day, but I think old habits die hard!)
