Day 2: You've got your OTP, you have to throw a third into the mix (from the same fandom), creating an OT3. Who is the OTP, and in your opinion, why would they make a perfect third for them? Bonus question: What about adding a third to your OTP from a different fandom? Who and why?

MCU
NB: Haven't seen any of the new Disney+ Marvel properties yet, and I don't intend to. You seem sensible, so please don't try to persuade me on this.

Maria/Steve OTP -> Maria/Steve/Bucky.

I've written them in at least one AU that I can think of. I think Bucky having someone he can trust but who can challenge him in the relationship is important. Steve wouldn't - there's too much history and guilt between them. I think Maria being in a relationship with men who won't pull away when she snaps but will go to the crisp and slightly stiff courtesy that she can deal with until one or the other softens in some way.

I haven't really thought of someone from another fandom like that. I did once ask for James Bond/Maria Hill, which I think could be interesting with Maria/Steve and James. Lots of opportunity for conflicts and secrets (and gadgets and flirting).

Pacific Rim

Mako/Raleigh OTP -> Mako/Raleigh/Chuck

I don't think it works as a formal relationship - Chuck is that little bit 'outside' from Mako/Raleigh - but as an add-in, sure!

I'm not much of a one for OT3s, in all honesty.

The thing is, I can see something like a sedoretu - or a circular OT4 - working so much better in these relationships. It's the existence of the formal, accepted dynamic, and then all the ways in which the dynamic is managed by the individuals: both the sexual relationships and the non-sexual ones...

Someday I'll write a sextet of books about a sedoretu marriage. Or something of that sort.

When I finish my current novel series. Eventually. I might be about five hundred yeas old by then.
