So, it's been good to meet some of the colleauges I'm working with. Others…well, they're typical 'guys in tech' and, moreover 'South Asian/West Asian guys in tech', which is to say they're very insular socially, and very closed when it comes to including an East Asian female in their outings.
Some of them are more friendly than others, which is fine. That's usual, I've found when working with this kind of group. However, it's a little bit annoying, having to push to sort out things like lifts to work and stuff.
Which is kind of okay by me, it just means I'll be dealing more with the people who will talk to me (mostly the people who work locally here and so aren't reliant on each other for the social aspect). There are always some guys who are more willing to be chatty (tbh, they're often the ones who don't have a 'clique' to run with, and that is definitely the case in this situation).
Work-wise, everything is holding up and nothing is crashing, but it's not our work to fix the development issues, it'll be our job to keep everything running going forward. We've been struggling to get the necessary accesses to the notifications of what's going wrong, through. Just got them at the end of last week and the start of this one, so...going forward will be interesting.
I don't think our work should be too difficult, unless they want major stuff done, then the testing etc. will be kind of hellish, because of distributed people-resources and the impossibility of testing neatly and so forth...

Spent a great weekend with friends I haven't seen since their kids were much smaller. I've known B for over 20 years - since before she met her husband C (internet dating back some twenty years) - and although we've moved through very different stages of life, we're still good friends.
I gave her a draft (very drafty draft) of the novel, which I've started to fix/adjust/rewrite. Still trying to work out some of the details about the various characters, the various moving parts of the story, and where everything lands up.
We went out on both Saturday and Sunday, which is a lot for her - she has CFS and struggles with her energy levels. We went for a walk around the area on Saturday morning, and then out for dinner that night. Sunday was markets and then taking me to the station, and by the end of it, I think she was pretty exhausted and sore. At least she gets today off - she doesn't work, is on disability (FWIW). Her husband works, currently the service rep at a local mechanic's place and he's got the knowledge for it, but not the body. They've had a lot going on the last 18 months and are hoping for a stretch of quiet.

So the hotel is not as nice as last week's hotel in terms of the room and appointments (tile flooring all the way, no carpets, no rugs, and the layout of the room is kind of peculiar), but the location is considerably better for going out and eating and stuff.
Eh. I'll take it.

Tonight, I'm catching up with a friend for dinner, and hopefully another friend on Tuesday night. Wednesday and Thursday will be scrounge days, although someone has recommended a place in the city

Back home, we have a chicken who is likely about to get the axe. B1 has spent entirely too much on her over the last year (well, and I have, too, but mostly because B1 insisted on taking her) and she's just a lot of issues held together by skin and feathers. Unfortunately B1 is bad at saying "no" to the nice and well-meaning docs and nurses at the expensive vet surgery, and equally terrified of having to be involved with The Chop. So she's been paying vet bills so she doesn't have to say no to the nice vets (who I imagine give her the 'shocked and horrified' expression of "you aren't a good chicken owner?" that makes her cave in to their suggestions) or give said chook The Chop.
The other vets we took our chickens to were a lot more sympathetic to situations where cost was a problem. This one seems to keep suggesting expensive assessments!
*sigh*
I've always known that the day might come when we'd have to do the job ourselves instead of getting them quietly put down. Thankfully, the parentals are willing to assist.

WHEW.
That's "automatic recount" territory, of course, but it's been very carefully scrutinised, and so the counts are unlikely to change.

Sorry about the work clique-ness. Working in academia, we definitely have those types of folks in our department as well, though it's interspersed with "old guard still think the Republican Party is the way to go and this is just an abberration" type of old white male cliques in addition to the various PhD cliques. Such. Fun.

I will send you a draft once I have it wrestled into shape... That could be this year, or it could be the 12th of never...
And yeah, some of the guys are cliquey, but they're not the only guys in the office. Thankfully. :)

Which isn't usually a problem in this part of town, because people have money to spare. We just don't have this much to spare on a chicken that's not even one of the ones that we're more fond of!
