To absolutely nobody's surprise, Sydney's lockdown* is going for another week to next Friday.
*look, 'lockdown' is the term that's being used, but if I told you what people are going out for, I don't imagine it would look very much like a lockdown to you.

I really hope Sydney's numbers go down.

I'm pretty sure that most of the people I know don't want to 'live with delta in the community' but we won't have much of a choice, I think. Well, not until the rich and powerful start dropping like flies, and most of them have had the vaccine so they're not worried... *rolls eyes*

If NSW is going to "live with the delta variant" then WA is going to "never drop its hard border" and you know what? I'm okay with that because I don't want to get covid :|
It's... incredibly frustrating watching politicians prioritise money over lives. I hope you have a state election coming up and I hope people remember.

I'm getting my reporting from here, btw - Guardian Australia's live news stream: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/live/2021/jul/08/australia-news-live-sydney-lockdown-nsw-politics-morrison-albanese
Unfortunately, our last election was...2019, I think - same year as the last federal election, so we're not likely to see another state election until 2022.

Although... I clicked on that link and saw her say this: "For us to think that we can control a very contagious variant without having a certain proportion of the population vaccinated would be an unrealistic assumption"
and like... maybe I'm coming from a place of WA privilege but it's... not that hard?? you just... do an actual lockdown??? Because the delta variant got into QLD, NT, WA... and we all did an actual lockdown and now it's no longer in the community...
Being able to control a very contagious variant without a proportion of the population vaccinated is absolutely realistic because WA did it last week. skdjfnskjdg god this just makes me so mad. Last year they said we couldn't eradicate covid in the community either, and then WA went and did it anyway. Do they just... not pay attention??
Okay sorry I will stop being angry in your comments box... this is why I sometimes try not to pay attention to the news... it makes me furious to see politicians playing the party line instead of taking decisive actions to save lives.
Ahh, 2022 is probably too far away for people to properly remember :(

Seriously, conservatives in leadership are basically a plague on our society, killing us all in slow waves of 'but this worked fine for the last forty years while we spent all our futures in todays, it will work fine even though the bank is now empty because we spent it all on yesterday!'
