Anti-lockdown protests in Sydney and Melbourne yesterday: 7K in Sydney, 1K in Melbourne.
Not that we were on track to get out of lockdown at the end of this month, but at this point, we're not going to get out of lockdown for another month, if not two.
And I imagine things are about to heat up significantly on just about all the groups I belong to: I have permaculture/all-naturalists on one one hand (vaccines are evil and poison your body), evangelical Christians on the other (engaging in 'the culture wars' rather like US evangelicals, and beginning to start at the shadows of anything that challenges Christian cultural supremacy), and most likely a lot of quiet sympathisers for both.
I think it's funny that both you and dirtygreatknife (also in Australia) posted pretty much the exact same thing ("I live in a country full of idiots" was her exact wording, one right after the other.
On the one hand, I'm glad to see Americans aren't the only covid-idiots in the world. (I know there were Parisian protests over vaccines recently, too.) On the other hand - UGH. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY IDIOTS IN THE WORLD??
On one hand, stupid individualism. On the other, disaffection and disappointment. People who don't have enough opportunity or possibility are easily led to blame sub-groups and are happily led there by those who see less order and government as their opportunity.
