(My nasty personal theory is that the anger increases in general proportion to the person's awareness of colonial history rather than seeing her as a Sanitized Symbol, and there's a lot of Americans doing tut-tutting virtue-signalling over same BUT ANYWAY.) (My dad said once "There is nothing people will fight over more than symbols" and I think he's right.)
"God Save the King" sounds so wrong! King's Counsel sounds wrong. His Majesty's Royal Army or whatever sounds wrong. Even to Americans.
