Some that I found helpful and interesting. This is more of a collection post for me, but you're welcome to browse and check through them - or check out [livejournal.com profile] metafandom's race tag, or [livejournal.com profile] ibarw's del.icio.us account.

Alas, I'm missing the post where one poster pointed out that, while they're usually reluctant to say anything on the racism front, when she realised that the Daily Deviant mods took silence as agreement that there was nothing wrong with their behaviour, she chose to make a post against it. I'm not sure whose that was, but it really struck me - possibly because I seem to make quite a few posts when this kind of topic comes up, but I always question whether I should speak out, or sit down and shut up.

(Actually, I just found it - it's "On being an ally in fandom" by [livejournal.com profile] brown_betty, and is brilliant.)

[livejournal.com profile] brown_betty: "je ne veux pas ĂȘtre complice"

[livejournal.com profile] broadpenstrokes: "when writing about non-white people, the emphasis should be on 'people' not 'non-white'" which is pretty much the key to racism - the denial of a non-white person's individuality and personhood.

[livejournal.com profile] ciderpress: "the worst kind of discrimination: the kind against me!" which compares the right of a white fan not to be accused of racism in their fan activities against the right of a fan-of-colour not to be sidelined and dismissed by depictions of their racial or ethnic type.

Plus, some pimpage:

The "probably just a little tacky post-kerfluffle multifandom inter-racial ficathon" run by [livejournal.com profile] annavtree, and the ever-awesome [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong's addition that's alien-inclusive: Emergency "Brother From Another Planet" Fic Challenge.

I had another couple of posts for IBARW ("We have no bananas today" and "Burning crosses in other people's yards"), but the first didn't get finished in time and I'm debating posting the second because I know it will make people uncomfortable. Which is, really, quite a sad inditement on me, if I'd rather have everyone like me and "be comfortable" reading this LJ, than state what I see as a problem in fandom.
