It seems some twit over on JM's blog has been whining that Teyla's only getting character development this season because Rachel got pregnant.
Um. No.
Because I mailed Joe Mallozzi in early October last year if something more was planned for Teyla in S4, and he gave an unequivocal 'Yes.'
In addition to which, I was at a Sydney convention in October last year, when Rachel was asked about the development of her character, and she said that JM had apologised for not using her character in S3 and that she would be getting a story arc in S4.
So, unless RL has a gestational period of a full year, the Teyla-oriented plots have been in the works long before Rachel got pregnant.
You gotta love fandom, I tell you. We bring all the stoopid to the yard.

BTW, I see that the "Teyla and Ronon run Atlantis while everyone else bumbles around for a change" idea you love so much will come to fruition in Tabula Rasa. Excited?

Its not so much stoopid as selective hearing - fandom only hears that that it may wank about.
Having said that, I find it difficult to have sympathy for Joe, because he gives just as well as he gets, and entertains the masses as he does it.

I don't feel sorry for Joe exactly. He's a stirrer at heart. But I wouldn't put myself through the fan wringer the way he does! Still, if I don't feel sympathy for him, I don't feel any sympathy for the fans whinging and whining at him, either.

Fandom hears what it wants...usually that which it can cause wank with.

TPTB are aware of their faults and failings, even if they're not as quick to fix them as fans would like (or don't think of them as glaring problems the way we do) - and they did want to do better by Rachel.
Plus, I find the assumption that "Teyla's only getting characterisation because Rachel's pregnant" is incredibly insulting to both Rachel's skills as an actress, as well as the idea of Teyla as a valued and valuable character in the show.
