clothing sizes

I feel like 'bust-waist-hips' is not a helpful measurement for me in clothing sizes - of more concern to me regarding fit is 'breadth of shoulders', 'arm length', 'shoulder-to-hem'.

Those measurements are rarely given.

I mean, I theoretically understand why. And yet.

I hear you! Most clothing manufacturers seem to think that when I have broad shoulders, I must also be very tall with long arms. Same for hip/waist size and the length of the legs. 95% of the time, whenever I buy a new shirt or trousers, I need to have them refitted.

They're getting better at trousers these last few years in Australia. A lot of brands now have variable leg lengths: long, standard, and petite legs. But, yeah, sleeve length is always too long for shoulder width.

Thinking it over, it's the need for 'fit' for women's clothing that causes half the problem. If it was more socially acceptable to turn up in a t-shirt and track pants, the whole sizing thing wouldn't be such a bloody schemozzle.
