Summary:
--
I was just fixing a few spellos when I thought about Violet and how she presented each of her daughters. Daphne was eager to take her place in society, Eloise was relieved to be spared the burden of presentation, Francesca was terrified under a veil of serenity.
And I thought What will Hyacinth's presentation look like? How would she behave, what would she say, what would the Queen (assuming the Queen is still presiding over these things in four or five years' time) think of Hyacinth.
I have to admit, out of Violet's daughters, Hyacinth is the one that I like most. One gets the feeling she doesn't disdain feminine things - she enjoys them to the hilt - but would have distinctly 'bluestocking' tendencies. (And, oh, I hope the Netflix show gets to her story and have the opportunity to meet Gareth St Clair, who is Lady Danbury's grandson. Even if I'm not delighted with the show and the way they write the characters, I'd like to see their take on it - while rewriting all the things that I don't like...)
One can just imagine Hyacinth being presented, then overhearing some courtier's comment and calling them out on it - not the done thing, perhaps, but the Queen doesn't like that courtier either and is tickled by the spirit of this young woman. So Hyacinth isn't the 'diamond' of the season, but neither is this a glorious moment (like Daphne), a toil to be endured (Eloise), or a terror to get through (Francesca).
