I bought (yes, bought) a CD rom of CivII to try to play.

It's not working in the DVD multirecorder that I borrowed and I'm trying to work out if it's the disc or it's the external player which is connected to my laptop via USB. Or something else.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

Probably the disc.

Possibly the disc, or your Windows version... but I have a USB CD drive you can borrow, if you want to try that out when I'm back.

I'm pretty sure the original ran in Windows 3.1 or Win95 which is why I was asking. XD

If you can see the files in Windows Explorer when you put the disc in, it's not the disc!

If it's the disc, you can look at the shiny side and see if there's a scratch, and hold it up to the light to see if there's a gap. But that will only tell you about a physical issue.
