Well, I barely woke up, in fact. I was semi-awake when sister left for work this morning. But fell back asleep and didn't get up until nearly 8am.
Still half-asleep this afternoon.
Technically, I have hockey training on tonight, but the aches and the bruise on the kneecap (I think I can see the ball dimples) suggest maybe that's not such a great idea...
--
Also: news is that Harris has secured the necessary delegates to become the Democratic nominee.
WTF, America. It hasn't been 36 hours. THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY GOT ITS SHIT TOGETHER IN THIRTY-SIX FUCKING HOURS. Bloody hell.
I'm fucking impressed.

All my friends groups have perked up, some are fully leaning into activism, others are simply expressing the equivalent sentiment of "well, thank GOD". It's heartening to see after what's close to a decade of despondency and duty. And given I know so many women, left-leaning, non-white, non-heteronormative, it's HUGE and I am here for them.

I hope your knee feels better tomorrow!

And yes, a wild political season. Although, as many people are saying "I miss precedented times" there's a part of me that asks, "And what did we do to maintain those precedented times before they became unprecedented?" Maybe that's a warning for the tired old political systems going forward: if we don't want to live in 'unprecedented times' maybe we need to do the work while we're still living in 'precedented' ones.
(It's all a bit late now. We're in the unprecedented times, environmentally, politically, socially, culturally, there is no going back. The past is a country whose borders are entirely closed to us.)

The Australian elections of 2022 are an example of this: nine new independent players in our federal parliament, 8 of them women defeating white establishment men. Largely conservative-leaning, yes. But also because they're independent and new, they weren't bound by the rules that held the old in place.
It's a new game, and yes, the major parties moved to block it as soon as possible. We have elections coming up next year; could be interesting for us, too.
But you guys! Watching despondency lift? The last forty-eight hours have been a freaking turnaround. *hugs* I'm so happy for you!
