I wonder if the HR manager has pushed back against the client group manager...

ETA 2 hours later: Apparently they are renewing me, but they're changing the payroll company they're paying me through, and I'm not sure what's going on with the rate, or how much longer the contract will go for.

Also, per my icon: you should do a search on "political" quilts at QuiltCon '26. There are a bunch of conservatives with their panties in a knot because "suddenly" the quilts are "political"...

We have two new chickens. Babies, 6 weeks old. We're keeping them inside for the moment, in a cage, mostly because the coop we'd put them in needs repair and I won't have proper time until Sunday (but am stealing lunchtimes and after work). We're also trying to get them used to cuddles.

Suddenly the quilts are political, they say.

Tell us they've never read about the history of quilting without telling us...etc. and so on.

Okay, it's not as funny as the people who want to know when Star Trek or comics "became woke", but it still amuses me.

Some people just walk around completely blind to everything.

Here in Australia, there's occasionally horror to discover that the famous Aussie band Midnight Oil has suddenly become 'woke' with lyrics like:

How can we dance when our Earth is turning?
How can we sleep while our beds are burning?
The time has come to say fair's fair
To pay the rent now, to pay our share!
The time has come - a fact's a fact:
It belongs to them;
Let's give it back!

Those lyrics were sung in 1987...

I was already starting to see some explicitly political quilts at the shows closest to me: SF Quilt Guild show in 25 and at the East Bay Heritage Quilters Show (EBHQ) in 2024. The sentiments were already there so I am not surprised that they exploded at QuiltCon.

But then, I remember when people got their panties in a bunch about the quilts from the Social Justice Sewing Academy in the early 2020s and the one block that was offered as a freebie for quilters that some people felt compelled to change because it wasn't 'nice.'

Complainers can all bite my ass.

My local quilting group submitted a quilt with pink pussy hats in the corners back in 2017. And at that time there were already American quilters who were putting quilts up with explicitly political themes - mostly to do with issues of race and America.

It's not like this is the first time around the block for many of these 'protest' quilters.

It probably just didn't seem political to most people because it didn't affect them. And ten years ago, there was more pressure to insist "we're all fine here thanks how 'bout you?"
