SG Women Icontest & curious question

I won the sgwoment_itest Week 59 Challenge: Sets with this set of icons:


And I was thinking of how I started making icons, and what my early icons were like and how I developed into icon-making - mostly by looking up tutorials that showed me how to do the things I like, and then finding a program and experimenting with it.

If I spot a style or a design that I like, I usually try to work out how they did it, or go looking for a tutorial that shows how I could.

So I'm a little curious about how others have learned to make icons. And whether they also look at other icons and think "Hm, I wonder how they put that together."

And yes, jeyla4ever, I was very bad and didn't finish my 10 John/Teyla kiss icons. Sorry about that...

Mum's quilt

Okay, I think that this quilt looks like a possibility for Mum's quilt.

I could knock out one of the 'star' blocks and replace it with a 'panel' block instead. Maybe two? And I have enough white-gold fabrics to make the stars and the sashing so...
