My mortgage company called just then. A payment was due to be taken out of my account for my mortgage yesterday...if it hadn't discharged on Thursday. Except that, due to the banking holidays, the money hasn't been cleared from my solicitors' account to mine. So technically, the discharge hasn't actually taken place yet.
*sigh*
I got a call from the "Credit Management Department" asking when they could debit the money from my account, without checking to see that I'd had the damn mortgage discharged, and that the inability of the banks to transfer money over weekends and public holidays isn't actually something I can control.
Luckily, a very nice lady from the "Discharges Department" called up and sorted it out. Hopefully I won't get stuck with a 'late fee' for being temporarily in arrears.
But this is a financier company. I don't hold out that much hope.
Still, she did say I could call back if I did end up with a late fee.
On the 'sense of humour' side, I did keep my temper even though I was a little sharp, and their on-hold music wasn't the kind that makes you want to kill something just to make it stop...
