Links from the Guardian:

Decriminalisation of abortion in NSW passes first hurdle, which is a relief. I didn't figure it would even make it through the NSW House.

FTR, NSW is the only state in Australia where abortion is still on the criminal code. You can get an abortion so long as a doctor considers it against the physical, mental, and psychological health of the woman. Most will allow it as soon as the patient realises the situation and asks for an abortion, but it's not ideal.

So it's passed. The whole question of restrictions on terminations after 22 weeks is confusing as heck, though, which it's probably intended to be. I hope that someone puts together a clearer idea of what those requirements are and how they are executed; plain paperwork, if necessary with a checkbox list: meeting with doctor and gyno/specialist, permission obtained, hospital booked.

It's not perfect, it has the risk of those requirements becoming more onerous, but so many things these days are unacceptable if they're not "perfect" (not least of which are people), an endless game of Never Have I Ever, and if you're still standing at the end, then you're not actually human, or you're maybe 5 minutes old.

I was going to dinner on Tuesday with a couple of friends, but one woman's hubs was in for an endoscopy that day and she asked to change it to Friday.

We changed it to tonight.

Yesterday, the other woman announced she'd sprained her ankle while playing netball, thinking she was twenty years younger. So...cancelled again.

So tonight B1 and myself will try out a local-ish American BBQ at a teeny tiny Bowling Club a couple of suburbs away.
