Women were laughing out loud in the theatre; until a man scolded us.
Seeing Twelfth Night performed in a bar last week really helped cement this. You were expected to laugh loudly, order drinks, eat food, heckle. It wasn't 'here is the performance and here is the audience’, it was ‘you the audience are also part of the performance and we welcome it’.

Pool To Pond: how to turn a chemical bath into a lovely wetlands
I don’t have a pool in my backyard, but I do have a bathtub pond. Last summer I grew water chestnuts and azolla (a nitrogenous water weed) and had barely any mosquitos, I’m going to do the same this year. But I do need to pull that water lily out and look at reviving it. It looks awfully dead...

Yesterday, I had a friend come over and he 'trimmed' the jacaranda in the front yard. He...might have been a little overenthusiastic about trimming it. Which means rather more than the 10% that council allows you to do without a permit is gone and the tree looks a little sketchy...
We actually had someone come out here to assess the tree to see if we could remove it, but the answer was basically 'no'. Apparently if we'd done it two years ago, the answer would have been 'yes'. But two years ago I was trying to get the backyard sorted out and hadn't yet set my sights on the front yard...
In the meantime I have put my name down to open my garden to the public for a weekend next year. This is going to be 'interesting' according to the Hoburn Washburne definition.
I'm trying to decide exactly what I'm going to showcase:
- chooks in the garden
- fruit trees in suburbia
- composting, worm farms
- neighbourhood sharing
- in-ground wicking beds (milk-carton wicking)
The last two are still in progress. I'm going to see how milk-carton wicking does as the summer rolls around. It may fail quite completely once the dog days of summer come along, but...I kind of hope not.

I spent 3 hours today chipping tree branches. And I am so tired...
