Team 2, C-grade.
They called me ahead of time to let me know I wasn't going to be in Team 1 (A-grade). I think my "walkout" in 2019 has them all a little worried that I'll kick a fit.
At some point, I need to explain that 2019 was different. After 2018 I'd been thinking I'd get to go up a grade and play a challenging game - was ready and eager for it, and after playing what I thought was really well, I ended up in the lowest grade with the beginners. And then was told "well the women who've gone up have done their time and they deserve better" which...maybe they did deserve it, but that felt like it meant I didn't, and that was a crushing disappointment. I wasn't going to play resentfully through that, so I decided not to play that year.
Anyway, C-grade this year. I'm good with that. This team is the mix of last-year's C-grade and last-year's D-grade; it'll be a challenge to raise some of the D-grade players into a better grade of game, but I'm up for that in a way I wasn't back in 2019.
It's all about time and place.
Regarding the place in A-grade, it looks like it was between me and a teenager (17) who's played with us for a number of years and they're putting her up because she's young and needs a bit of GRR. Once she gets the GRR she'll be a really good player (like several other players who began as shy teens and have really grown into their game). I don't resent that, and it's not like what happened in 2019 when half the women I thought I was on par with went up and I was stuck down.
Anyway, apparently if Team 1 (A-grade) needs players, I'm likely to get called up. That's fine. I'm just going to have to keep up the grumpy little runs. Which are good for my general health in any case.
Unfortunately, I haven't been running AT ALL this last week. First I got the tattoo 'finished' on Tuesday, then it's been the windows all this week. I last went for a run last Tuesday and only just managed another run this evening.
Tomorrow is PT. That's going to be fun...
