Damn.
Team 1 got graded into A-grade. We were so hoping they'd be in B. Maybe we shouldn't have won that 'grading game' after all.
Team 1 lost their game 4-1. And it's probably going to be a year of losses for them. Which, however people try to talk it up, is difficult.
What I don't understand is that if one of the other clubs can insist that their team which is clearly B-grade can get graded down into C-grade, why the heck can't we insist that Team 1 get graded into B-grade? We aren't a pro-league, or even a pro-league-focused club. We're a suburban club of mothers and middle-aged women. Not one of our players has played at rep level, unlike just about every other club in the association.
Team 2 played one of the teams down the lower end of C-grade, and won 6-0. One of the goals for us was an own-goal by an opposition player. Those really suck. But for the most part, they were a good-natured team to play although the umpires were not the best. *sigh*
I didn't get any goals. Four shots on, not a one that actually went in. Their goalie was good. And their backs were solid - it was just that their forward line couldn't get it past our backs, and their midfield wasn't as dedicated as ours. Gotta practice lifting, I think. Bouncing it. Something.
I'm in C-grade, and likely to stay there (I think; I hope). My friend J is playing this year, and she's asked to stay with me - she's got an injury, although she puled up wel from it after yesterday. Bodies and getting old and all that.
Although I probably will get asked to play up for a few games at least: right now, Team 2 is loaded (16-17 players) and Team 1 is scant (14-15). At least one of Team 2 is is going to have to be graded up, but most of the better players are in it to play with other players who are graded down.
I don't mind playing up in Team 1, but it's going to be rough for some of the players in Team 1, and also rough for those who might end up playing 2 games.
Anyway, this morning is sore - hips and back twingey, but no more than usual. It's in fact mostly the sitting still that seems to get everything sore...
