fic-finder?

I'm not going to the SGA fic-finders comm because nobody there would have read this story. It appeared on my f-list a while back, and I'm pretty sure it was written by a John/Teyla fan who's only turned up in fandom in the last 18 months.

At any rate, the story was about John and Teyla on Earth, at an Air Force flying display day (or whatever they're called) and John got offered the chance to fly a chopper in demo.

It was a pretty damn awesome story, but I can't remember what it was called or who wrote it.

I think it was greenconverses, but I'm not 100% sure.

My impression of the SGA storyfinders comm is that it's full of people who like popular stuff, and rather less useful for people who only read the unpopular stuff.

Plus, I was pretty sure someone on the f-list would have read it and remembered it. :)

Er ... popular stories are going to be more easily recognized and more commonly asked for than less popular ones (QED) but that seems like a bit of a sweeping judgment to make about a comm watched by 1800 people. I'm also a bit puzzled why you'd assume just because someone reads one kind of story or pairing, they don't also read other kinds.

Which doesn't mean there's anything wrong with asking the f'list, of course. I've done it myself on occasion. I'm just puzzled that you'd dismiss storyfinders out of hand like that. I've rarely seen requests go unanswered -- someone found Marozi (http://pentapus.livejournal.com/98499.html) for me a little while back in like 2 seconds. *g*

It probably was a little presumptuous to dismiss SGA storyfinders off-hand; however, I figured that since the story was a) a John/Teyla story, b) written by a John/Teyla author early on in their fandom writing career, it was quite unlikely to have hit the radars of many people in fandom - and the people whose radar it had hit would be more likely to be on my f-list than in storyfinders.
