Dood!
I see why people said that the story started to get interesting in the back-end of the season. Early season = meh, whatever; later season = OOOH.
(I can't remember #7's title), #8 - Four Months Ago, and #9 - Cautionary Tales
The fact that Heroes is one big, long story gets a little frustrating at times. Missing a week can be fatal. Thank heavens for downloads! Still, I can't fault the build-up from episode #7 onwards.
It was helpful to get the feeling of what happened in the months in between.
I had a feeling that the Takeio Kensei storyline would come back at some stage - although 'Adam Munroe' has a lot of echoes of 'Sylar' about him: the friendship-manipulation of Peter/Mohinder that I foresee is coming. I like how Elle has no concept of people and personal space, and that all relates back to her being essentially a lab rat - plus what Mr. Bennett says to her about her father? Lovely parallels (or non-parallels) between Elle and Claire and their respective fathers.
West's feeling of betrayal, Claire's very teenaged sense of entitlement - the screamed 'I hate you' to her father... Those were good. I still feel that West is a little too much the perfect boyfriend, even with his anger, but he's acceptable now.
Query: why does no-one ever come clean in these things? They talk about generalities: "You don't know how important Claire is, we're trying to save the world!" Instead of saying "There is a woman who was accidentally injected with a plague that could kill humanity and Claire's healing abilities could save her and prevent a holocaust." I don't get why people can't talk straight, I really don't. It seems...stupid, even within the context of needing the person having the request made of the reject the request.
Hee. Okay, they referenced that Claire's real dad can fly and that West is "like him" in that sense, even though he's like Mr. Bennett in protectiveness. Cute moment.
And Nikki has a problem with split personalities. I'm not sure where that one can go. Matt and his father - that's becoming positively scary - Matt looks like he might need a balance, and Mohinder! Oh, Mohinder. I'm not sure I like what they've done with him - I don't remember him being so black and white in S1, but my memory may be slightly faulty on that front. I know he wants to help people, but that's not a reason to black-and-white everything.
Thinking about it, I think that Matt might need Mohinder as a kind of 'moral compass' but not in the way that Mohinder tends to argue the 'right/wrong' scale. Mohinder seems to see things in black and white and then insist that other people see them the same way - argue it, even.
I don't know if people have been 'interested enough' in Maya and Alejandro to actually write fic about them, but I imagine there would be a certain amount of incest fic about them? Her reliance on him is even more obsessive than Nathan's focus on Peter. Also, Mama Petrelli is a scary, scary lady - no matter what's happening around her.
Ooh, and Mr. Bennett has regenerative powers now! What an evil place to leave #9! I was going to watch #10, but the vid wouldn't play ball, dammit! DAMMIT!
So, yes. A 'meh' start, building to an 'OOOOH'.
