AHAHAHA. Opening scene - explosive outhouse, and Brennan, Booth and the boyfriend!

The discussion about Brennan's relationship with Mr. Hunky brings out one of the reasons why, in spite of loving their dynamic, I'm not convinced that they're actually suited to each other. Their perspectives are just too different; they meet halfway most of the time on cases, but so much of the time, they're just not on the same page.

I'm not sure about the inclusion of Sweets in the regular cast. Although he's entertaining in the assessment of Brennan and Booth's relationship, his presence feels a little obvious in the context of therapist. He's there to draw attention to Brennan and Booth's relationship and occasionally provide profiles. It feels a little forced, that's all.

Sue, you're right - the new assistant is very annoying. This girl is not very bright. Perky and academic...but not very bright. And she doesn't fit into the group dynamic, either. GAH. PERKY. SHUT UP, PERKY GIRL.

It interests me that Brennan is billed as so intelligent and yet doesn't actually realise that not everything can be reduced down to its anthropological basis. That it's one thing to observe trends in society through an anthropological lens, but when you involve people - the human spirit, the human psyche, human emotions - interactions get messy. I guess that's the problem with rational empricists in the end; they know how things should work according to the Manual Of Human Behavioural Interactions...but really, since when has anything behaved according to the manual specifications once it gets off the factory floor?

AHA! I comprehend the comment about the two boyfriends!

Booth and Sweets do a fantastic bounce off each other in the diner:

"I'm their therapist." *laughs*

"Double cheek kiss, tight italian suit..."
"Coldplay."
"Never married."
"Coldplay."

*gurgles*

"You don't have the best taste in men." Oh, ouch, Booth. That was rough.

You gotta say, they do a lot with body language in this show: Brennan and Booth trying to walk through doors together - several times during this episode.

I love the girl talk...before they get down to the nitty gritty of the autopsy. This show does women who are competent, good at their jobs, and still very much women...and it's such a nice change! Cam's reference to male impotency? Brilliant. And Angela's comment about missing college? I'm slightly disappointed that there's nothing between Angela and Hodgins? Nothing at all? No recriminations or anything? Le sigh.

LOL. Sweets and the new girl.

*facepalms* Brennan really doesn't get people. REALLY DOESN'T GET. It's interesting that Brennan never stops to question if other people in the universe share her view; whether Mark is happy just having sex, or Jason with just having dinner and shows. She thinks that, because it's an anthropological imperative, it's okay - that people can erase their emotions and thoughts and feelings on this.

You know, I think at some level, Booth enjoys Brennan's societal awkwardness, her inability to 'get it'. Not when they're dealing with victims and the families of victims, but when it comes down to her personal life and the stuff-ups she makes.

Okay, srs bzns time.

That discussion at the end, where Booth tells Brennan that there's someone out there who she's meant to spend the rest of her life with? I don't think he's intentionally talking about him. I don't think Brennan's at a stage where she could accept Booth's interest, and I don't think Booth's at a stage where he could accept Brennan's depersonalisation of it. I thought this back in S2, too; that while they were good friends, and yes, there's the more - they're just not at a place where they could.

I could rewatch this...as long as I silenced the sound anytime the grad student turned up.

I haven't read your post, because we missed the first ep, but...I'm not sure we're going to keep watching it. I felt so betrayed by the season ender, the writers pulling that "solution" out of their asses like that....:-(

Did they address that? Does the new season look worthwhile? Should we hunt down that new ep and start watching again? kthxbye

(BTW, over here because I'm looking for your Shermer High SGA AU series. I've been going through [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic now that I'm caught up on seasons 1-4 via the DVDs, and I'm really enjoying your series. I've always liked Liz/Ronon. :-) )

I concur on all points. Sweets is getting too much screen time, the annoying girl was way too annoying, the relationship between Booth and Brennan is getting played up too much, and they've barely talked about Angela and Hodgin's implosion. I'm not sure if Booth and Brennan work as a couple, because they are already extensions of each other. Sex would just screw with their dynamic and make them way more pissed off at each other.

I like the show and all, but I ask for some new direction. :)
