May be taken entirely out of context, but right now, I don't care. About ten people can see this. [eta: now just f-locked][eta2: unlocked]

And this is what this whole discussion about the co-opting of racial and cultural identity (and it's expanding tendrils) started with: a white woman talking about how to write POC realistically, only to have it pointed out by a POC that the white woman's idea of realistic was not the POC's idea of realistic.
People throw a fit because a white view of POC got criticised by POC, the situation explodes, and two weeks later, a white fan complains that her right to represent herself is being co-opted by someone whose view of her she doesn't agree with.
Do I find this ironic?
Why, yes. Yes, I do.
"but the specific trope of other people telling me that they, intrinsically, know what is going on in the back of my skull better than I do turns out to be a major issue for me."Other people telling POC that they, intrinsically, know what is going in the back of their skulls better than the POC do is a major issue for POC, too.

I've about had it with having to deal with white people's feeling and having mine and others shat upon.

Agreed. I understand that there are hurt feelings on both sides (however the "other side" that isn't POC and anti-racist allies are being defined), but this game is old and tired. It seems like it's inevitable that whenever discussions of race come up, the focus becomes about validating white people's feelings and their roles, while we're sidelined. White people should be having these conversations with each other, elsewhere.
