Watching 7.01-7.04.
"There's only one force on earth that can short-circuit a man's better instincts, put fire in his veins, and make him dive into danger with no regard for his own well-being..."
...I hate to tell you, Tony, but it's not vengeance. Well, not just vengeance - vengeance fuelled by...
Okay, overall, I wasn't pleased with the infodumpage of 7.01. I mean, it told us the story, but skimmed a few of the more logistical details like: how the hell did Gibbs know which window to shoot into, let alone that that was Saleem's head he was shooting at? The glass was dirty as hell.
I dislike Tony's hair when it's long enough to go floppy. It's not a good look for him. I did like the way he kept on looking for Ziva and when she wasn't there, was obviously adrift. The others weren't happy but they were coping; Tony was barely coping, and after the news of her death, it's pretty clear he wasn't.
Incidentally, Abby and McGee singing the song about the goat are so cute. And Vance and his "We don't have enough information, I can't authorise a mission." Which is basically telling Gibbs to get the data they need. I really like Vance and his tricksy political ways - lying to Eli David over the phone in Good Cop, Bad Cop? That was brilliant - all the more because it's the game Vance and Gibbs are playing with Ziva's dad.
Ziva really likes the men's restrooms for her conversations with Tony.
I'll be interested in seeing how much of the 'old Ziva' we get back in 7.05. She seemed very subdued in these episodes - in some places, she seemed almost over-cheerful, as though forcing herself to be 'normal'. Which probably isn't all that far off from it, if you think about it. Four months of torture...
And Cote de Pablo's acting? Brilliant. That scene in the interrogation room with Gibbs and the Mossad Agent (who looked familiar, and who I had to look up on imdb to realise he'd been in 24)? At the end? The way Gibbs leaned towards her as though he was going to tell her "never apologise" and then just brushes his lips against her hair? *sniffles*
I vaguely remember someone on my f-list complaining that NCIS didn't act like a family "now" and hearkened back to a time when they did. I can't remember if that "now" was Season 7 or Season 6. I liked Season 6 - well, I liked the arc at the end of it - I don't know how Season 7 is going to look. I hope things smooth out a little now that Ziva's back and solid.
Anyway, a reasonable start; although maybe not as sharp off the blocks as S5 or S6.
